January Lift-Out anybody?

Dear All,

I would like to do the YCW Autumn and Winter Sunday series, which is often some of the best sailing of the year, and then have the rest of the winter ashore somewhere. That somewhere could be either the Academy or Dean and Readyhoff, but I would much prefer to give my hard earned cash to the Club. So I need to find a few other like minded souls to make it worth while organising a lift out around the New Year. If anyone is interested, please contact me.

Bill Barker, Flair II (bill@bridevalley.com)

Many thanks

Bill

Cherbourg (Booze) Cruise...

Kay and the folks on Draig o'r Mor are organising a little 'cruise in company' to Cherbourg next weekend.

The plan is to leave around 8 pm Friday, arriving Cherbourg at dawn. Run ashore then back either Sat night or Sun. If there is sufficient interest the cruise could incorporate a friendly little race.

Contact Kay at skateboardkay@hotmail.co.uk or 07769 903 604 for more info.

Alderney Race update...

The entry list for tomorrow's Alderney dash has reduced to zero (hardly surprising given the mid channel gale warnings!) so the race is therefore cancelled.

The weather has played total havoc with our passage racing program this year but there is enourmous enthusiasm to squeeze a replacement or two in before the season's done -  if you have any suggestions please let us know.

Castle Cove in the 'Round the Island'

This years 'Round the Island' was another that won't be forgotten by many.  The winds were again boisterous South Westerlies but although the seas were much calmer than last year the organisers decided to cancel the race for around 70 of the 1600 entrants - the 'sports boats' and multi-hulls under 9.5 meters were not allowed to start.

First to cross the finish line at Cowes was French trimaran, Actual. The boat completed the course just over one minute outside the overall record, finishing in 3hrs 09mins and 57secs.

Back in the real world a number of boats suffered breakages and injuries and around 30 competitors were forced to retire - fortunately no Castle Cove boats suffered such issues.

In the ISC class Bill Barker sailing with Ricky and the crew of Effusion stormed around to WIN their class with Nick Massey's Tumbarumba just seconds behind in 3rd place.

Overall Results ISC:

  • Effusion - 1st in class and 21st overall
  • Tumbarumba - 3rd in class and 24th overall
  • Echo - 11th in class  and 140th overall
  • Almada - 23rd in class and 481st overall

Overall Results IRC:

  • Draig 'O Moor - 9th in class and 105th overall
  • Crew Cut - 26th in class 287th overall

Also in the the IRC class, Bob Turner and Alex Adams sailing on Arion won their class - the results of all these guys once again proves the very high standard of sailing at Castle Cove.
