The Cherbourg race is all set for this weekend, and if the weather holds it should be a great weekend!
We'll start at 7:00am from the CCSC start line and finish at the Western Entrance to Cherbourg's outer harbour some time later. Cherbourg is busy this weekend but I'm assured there will be plenty of room for us. There are special rates for CCSC racers (and participating YCW yachts) but RYA members should take their cards as you get a whopping discount there this year.
Please let me know if you're planning to take part, it's not vital with this one but it would be nice to know who's coming. We're currently at 6 boats which is a great start - but it would be nice to hit double figures!
The ferry will be operating Friday till 21:30 and from 06:00 Saturday.
Notice of Race is available from the clubhouse or you can download here...
Any questions please feel free to in touch (clubhouse after racing Wednesday or my numbers are in the handbook & Notice of Race)

Every boat at CCSC must display the usual 'Seasonal' Portland Port sticker. Boats and tenders without the Portland Port sticker may be removed without further notice.
This year, if you intend to sail out of the harbour during the Olympic period your boat MUST display an additional sticker. Boats failing to display the Olympic Sticker will be shot (probably). Who WILL require an Olympic Sticker
- Any boat wanting to pass through the gates at WPNSA or between the North Entrance and the field of play (the gates at the crossings between the Olympic sailors and normal traffic).
- Any boat arriving from the Sea
- Any boat wanting to leave the harbour
- Any boat wanting to leave the harbour and return
Who WILL NOT require an Olympic Sticker
- Boats wanting to sail, motor, row, paddle etc in the light blue area of Portland Harbour during Olympic racing will not need a sticker (providing they don’t want to cross the gate at WPNSA).
- Boats wanting to club race in Portland Harbour once the Olympic racing is finished for the day (Again providing they do not want to attempt to leave the area).
Up to 1st July the club will order Olympic stickers for boats that will need one, provided you let me know, preferably by email. After 1st of July we expect stickers will have to be obtained direct from Portland Port but we may have more details on this later in the year.

The first two of this season's long distance races are just around the corner.
Next Saturday (26th May) we're off to Poole. This is always a nice race and the crew at Poole YC put on a smashing meal and a great night out.
We do need to give them a little notice though so please if you could get back to me as soon as possible if you're planning to take part.

The following weekend (2nd June) we're off to Cherbourg - another great race! Also a perfect excuse to top up the vin or cidre reserves or to enjoy some gorgeous French cuisine, and a great way to start a little cruise. There are loads of really good reasons to make it a date!
Same as for Poole though, please let me know as soon as you're able if you're hoping to take part.

Just a little reminder about race night ferries.
The ferry drivers are asked, as a matter of policy, to run to the far end of the moorings and collect ON THE WAY BACK. This way crews are collected in order of readiness rather than proximity to the club house.
It is not unheard of on a busy race night for boats at the far end of the moorings to wait well over an hour for a ferry as boats closer to the club house grab them on their way out.
The drivers do their best to get everybody ashore as quickly as possible yet some drivers have reported crews closer to the club house becoming abusive as the ferry passes them by. We have already lost one driver because of this - and to those responsible I simply ask you what makes you think your time is any more valuable than those with moorings further away???

We've just had confirmation from the charming Magali in Cherbourg that the French authorities are quite happy for British boats to use Red Diesel in their waters. The poster below explains their position in more detail.
Royal Dorset have the first of their revitalized Friday evening series this Friday. The racing is aimed at cruisers and novice sailors who fancy the idea of a pleasant evening race without too much pressure, followed by a nice meal and a bit of a social back at the Royal Dorset. It's difficult to think of a more enjoyable way to spend a Friday evening. Racing starts at 18:45 – full details from www.royal-dorset.com
The decision to make the cup races this
year double handed races was well and truly vindicated on Sunday when
11 boats turned up to race. Not having to find a big crew makes it
so much easier to enjoy your boat and perfect wind in glorious
sunshine made for a great day's racing. Well done to everybody for
turning up and especially to Bill Barker for winning both morning and
afternoon races in convincing style in his new boat, Flair II.
